Week 9: Top 40 RBs

Ranking the top RB plays

Note: The Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Rams are on a bye.

1. Maurice Jones-Drew vs. KC: Excellent matchup and coming off a huge week.
2. Michael Turner vs. WAS: Looked close to his best last week.
3. Chris Johnson vs. SF: Seeing most of the carries and part of a rejuvenated offense.
4. Frank Gore vs. TEN: Showed last week that he is fully healthy again.
5. LaDainian Tomlinson vs. NYG: Two scores last week and the Giants have allowed 12 rushing TDs.
6. Brandon Jacobs vs. SD: Favorable matchup, but he’s struggling somewhat.
7. Ryan Grant vs. TB: He needs a good matchup to be a top play, and has one this week.
8. DeAngelo Williams vs. NO: The Panthers will go with the ground game for as long as possible.
9. Ray Rice vs. CIN: Has to be in your lineup against any opponent.
10. Marion Barber vs. PHI: Scored last week and is looking healthier.
11. Cedric Benson vs. BAL: Tough matchup, but played well in the last meeting.
12. Pierre Thomas vs. CAR: Looked dangerous last week despite splitting time with Mike Bell.
13. Joseph Addai vs. HOU: Good play with Donald Brown’s status still uncertain.
14. Ronnie Brown vs. NE: The Patriots have allowed just one rushing TD, but Brown exploded for four TDs in last year’s meeting.
15. Matt Forte vs. ARZ: Tough matchup for the Bears’ suspect offensive line.
16. Brian Westbrook vs. DAL: Should return after missing last week with concussion.
17. Rashard Mendenhall vs. DEN: The Broncos are strong against the run and the Steelers are relying on the passing game.
18. Clinton Portis vs. ATL: He’s been largely ineffective against weaker opponents than this.
19. Tim Hightower vs. CHI: Bump him up in PPR leagues as he is heavily involved in the passing game.
20. Kevin Smith vs. SEA: Check his status throughout the week and start him if he’s active.
21. Julius Jones vs. DET: Good matchup for the Seahawks’ running game.
22. Jonathan Stewart vs. NO: Will see carries if the Panthers can keep the game close.
23. Mike Bell vs. CAR: Splitting time with Pierre Thomas and seeing most of his carries in the second half.
24. Ahmad Bradshaw vs. SD: Keeps missing practice, but he’s a threat to score on game day.
25. Knowshon Moreno vs. PIT: Splitting time and facing the league’s top run defense.
26. Laurence Maroney vs. MIA: Tough matchup and the Patriots change their plan of attack every week.
27. Jamaal Charles vs. JAC: Has a chance to be the featured back with Larry Johnson suspended.
28. Steve Slaton vs. IND: Benched in the first quarter last week, but the most talented back on the team.
29. Carnell Williams vs. GB: Inconsistent, but capable of putting up numbers while the game is close.
30. Felix Jones vs. PHI: Not the best matchup and playing behind Marion Barber, but still a threat to score with any touch.
31. Ryan Moats vs. IND: Coming off a huge week, but his role is uncertain.
32. Correll Buckhalter vs. PIT: Tough test and likely to see limited carries.
33. Ricky Williams vs. NE: Effective in relief of Ronnie Brown and capable of finding the end zone.
34. Chris Wells vs. CHI: Still behind Tim Hightower, but has a significant role.
35. LeSean McCoy vs. DAL: Played well last week, but returns to a backup role with Brian Westbrook in the mix.
36. Darren Sproles vs. NYG: Capable of scoring every time he touches the ball, but opportunities may be limited.
37. Willie Parker vs. DEN: Reduced to a backup role and facing a strong defense.
38. LenDale White vs. SF: An afterthought unless the game is a blowout.
39. Maurice Morris vs. SEA: Would see increased carries if Kevin Smith suffers a setback during the game.
40. Reggie Bush vs. CAR: Dangerous, but seeing very little playing time.
