Note: The Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Rams are on a bye.
1.
Peyton Manning vs. HOU: If it looks like a shootout and smells like a shootout, it probably is. Sit back and enjoy the fireworks between these two potent offenses.
2.
Aaron Rodgers vs. TB: You know it’s bad when your team has a bye and you still rank in the Top 10 for most points allowed (17.2) to opposing QBs. Rodgers is hot, averaging 297 yards passing per game the last three weeks with eight TDs in the same span.
3.
Matt Schaub vs. IND: He’ll miss TE Owen Daniels (knee), but see Manning at No. 1.
4.
Donovan McNabb vs. DAL: The Cowboys have been playing better in recent weeks, but this rivalry produces points. Note these teams produced final scores of 41-37 and 44-6 in 2008.
5.
Tom Brady vs. MIA: Dolphins play the run well (6th in the league), but are suspect against the pass (21st in the league; surrendering 16 points to opposing QBs).
6.
Philip Rivers vs. NYG: The Giants are reeling the last three weeks and the Chargers’ passing game is clicking. Advantage – Rivers.
7.
Tony Romo vs. PHI: He’s averaging 306 yards passing the last three games and has eight TDs in the same span. See McNabb at No. 4 for more incentive to start Romo with confidence this week.
8.
Drew Brees vs. CAR: While the Saints can score on any team, temper overall expectations. The Panthers play the pass very well and shut down the vaunted Arizona Cardinals’ aerial show last week.
9.
Matt Hasselbeck vs. DET: The Seahawks have sputtered in recent weeks, but they’ll explode against the Lions, who surrender 19.8 points to opposing QBs.
10.
David Garrard vs. KC: Garrard is set to rebound against the Chiefs, who surrender 18 points to opposing QBs and rank 26th against the pass.
11.
Kurt Warner vs. CHI: Not a good spot on the road for Warner.
12.
Ben Roethlisberger vs. DEN: We could see a repeat of Denver’s defensive slugfest against the Baltimore Ravens last week. While Roethlisberger should throw a TD or two, his passing yardage may not be high.
13.
Carson Palmer vs. BAL: Had success against the Ravens in Week 5 with 271 yards passing and a TD.
14.
Shaun Hill vs. TEN: Great matchup when the 49ers air it out. Despite shutting down the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, the Titans still surrender the most points (21) to opposing QBs.
15.
Eli Manning vs. SD: He’s struggled the last three weeks (three TDs vs. six INTs) and can’t be relied on until he breaks out of the slump.
16.
Joe Flacco vs. CIN: Bengals shut him down in Week 5 and should have success playing in front of the home crowd.
17.
Jay Cutler vs. ARZ: He’s been all over the place this season and far from reliable regardless of matchup.
18.
Matt Ryan vs. WAS: The second-year pro has five TDs against seven INTs the last three weeks and the troubles continue against the league’s third-best pass defense.
19.
Matthew Stafford vs. SEA: You know the drill – Lions fall behind and will need to pass.
20.
Kyle Orton vs. PIT: Brutal spot for Orton against this nasty defense.
21.
Matt Cassel vs. JAC: Dial him up if you need to dig deep.
22.
Jake Delhomme vs. NO: He’s been awful and is banged up with a chest injury, but this is an intriguing matchup.
23.
Chad Henne vs. NE: Consider only if 150 yards passing is your thing.
24.
Jason Campbell vs. ATL: Do you really want to depend on Campbell?
25.
Vince Young vs. SF: Ditto for Young, who squeezes past Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie QB Josh Freeman to take this last spot.
